Lady finger palm uses a cane
To get up and stand on one leg
Then walk around a pond
To where there are others like her
Together, they form a shade
Under them I sleep to dream
To dream the childhood realm
Of stones that skip across ponds
Of frogs that creep at night
Of a beetle that sits still on a sill
Of a tire afloat on green waves
Of coconut groves and seaweed graves
Of gaps between woods of a porch
Awake. I get up being beaten with her cane.
