Poem of the Week, Dropped Ice Cream, Hal Sirowitz

Dang, it's been nippy the last few days. This poem just feels like the end of summer, doesn't it?

Dropped Ice Cream

by Hal Sirowitz
The good thing about
dropping a chocolate

ice cream cone on
your lap, rather than

the floor, mother said,
is you can retrieve it

and eat it, unless someone
was recently sitting

on your lap. Then, your
lap will be filled with germs.

That’s why it’s good hygiene
to keep your lap unoccupied,

especially before contemplating
eating an ice cream cone.
