Aisle Seat, Miriam Sagan

on the plane home
after a week
in an abandoned air base
watching the sun rise
symphonic
over the Enola Gay hanger
I sit next to a man
who has been blowing things up
on a testing range

he won't say what
of course
an engineer, former Marine
working for the labs, I figure
not a bad person
although he goes on about Ayn Rand
as if this were high school

not a bad person
just not the one
I'd put in charge
of any world--
our children's children.
