Cash and Carry--Luigi Monteferrante

I walk by her
Every day
She sits at the cash register
Holds a can to the scanner
She puts in a bag
Takes my card
Scans that
Never looks up
Not even a word
I go every day
Mondays for salt
Tuesday for sugar
On Wednesday it's tea
Thursday for milk
Friday it's wine
Weekends it’s bread
I tell her nice things
Not even a word
And I burped!
I stand at the corner
Got to change my approach
I pick up my bag
I wait at the corner.
