Charming--Paul Handley

Good luck comes in ones.
A single event, slotted into circumstance,
sometimes an inexorable force,
the big Mo if there is a play by play narrative.
Like dominoes or a Rube Goldberg gadget,
where seemingly unrelated events,
of a silver ball falling into a white funnel,
landing in the incised parietal of a puppet’s skull,
coughing open the jaw, lead to free concert tickets
due to conflicting schedules,
caused by the sudden appearance of out-of-town guests.

briefly slotted in between the numbers on a roulette wheel,
providing keyhole glimpses, view finder clicks of
riches that are gone, before disappointment or hope
can set in. The clicks like hand slaps
saying no, no, no, no, no.
